Copy to Figma

Copy to Figma puts a screen on your clipboard, and you paste it straight into Figma. There is nothing to install — no plugin, no extension, no connected account.

What arrives is a real layer tree: Auto Layout frames, components, text styles and variables, all editable. There is no link back to us, no licence check at paste time, and nothing that expires.

Copying a screen

1. Open the screen you want and press Copy to Figma.
2. The first time, your browser asks permission to write to your clipboard. Allow it.
3. Switch to Figma, open a file you have edit access to, and paste with ⌘V on macOS or Ctrl+V on Windows.

That is the whole flow.

The clipboard permission

Browsers treat writing to your clipboard as something that needs your consent, so the first copy in a given browser shows a permission prompt. Allow it and the copy completes.

You are normally asked once per browser. After that, copies happen without interruption. Because the permission is per browser, a different browser — or the same one after you clear its site data — asks again.

If you decline, nothing reaches your clipboard and there is nothing to paste. See below, because that case is worth understanding.

Where you can paste

Any Figma file you have edit access to. Pasting needs somewhere to write, so a file you can only view will not accept the screen — open your own file, or a project file where you are an editor.

When a copy fails

You declined the clipboard permission

Nothing lands on your clipboard. Re-allow clipboard access for betterdesign.ai in your browser’s site settings, then copy again.

Caution

A copy is counted the moment it is approved, which is before the screen reaches your clipboard. So a copy that fails at the clipboard step — a declined permission, a browser that blocks the write — has still used one from your allowance, even though you got nothing.

That is not the outcome we want. If it happens, email support@betterdesign.ai with the screen’s URL and roughly when, and we will put the copy back.

You’re out of copies

If you have used your allowance, the copy stops before anything else happens and offers an upgrade. This one does not consume a copy — you cannot be charged for a copy you were refused. Your reset date depends on your plan; read how quotas reset.

You were signed out

Copying requires being signed in. If your session ended — or was revoked from Devices — you are sent to sign in first. Your click is remembered, so the copy continues by itself once you are back rather than making you find the screen again.

Your browser blocks clipboard writes

Copying uses your browser’s clipboard API. A browser with clipboard access disabled by policy, or a hardened privacy extension, can block the write even after you allow the prompt. If a copy consistently fails in one browser and works in another, that is the cause.

Nothing happens at all

If the button does nothing — no prompt, no error, no paste — that is usually a problem with that particular screen on our side rather than anything you did. Email support@betterdesign.ai with the screen’s URL. Those are worth reporting; we cannot see them otherwise.

Pasting into an existing design system

The screens use their own variables and components. Pasted into a file that already has a design system, they arrive intact rather than adopting your tokens — Figma does not remap variables on paste.

Rebinding to your own variables is normal follow-up work, and it is still faster than building the screen. Many people paste into a scratch page first, rebind, then move the frame across.
